Shimmy Kimmy I have seen you shimmy, Kimmy. I watched you strut your stuff. You sure were kind of foxy, When you looked like in the buff. Now you've won the leadership, You're sitting there on top; All our women folk are praying, "Now, Kimmy, don't you flop". It all seemed so easy, in that long ago now past. You were certain for the throne, But it started slipping fast. Charest thought to take the post; He threw his hat in the ring. Three others soon followed suit, While you dithered in the wing. A coronation it could have been, But you were wishy-washy, The others gathered their support, But you were sort of mushy. They each declared themselves, While you held your peace, And once you were committed, Your rantings would not cease. You would say such wild things, Like talk of "Papal demons", And when the papers hit the streets, The headlines would be screamin'. You made the usual deficit pledge, While trying to win the vote, You said it would take five years. The words all came by rote. The problem with your rhetoric? You didn't say what you'd do, And Charest made the same speech, It was in the paper too. Ah yes, the media played its part, upheld our right to know, They blew it all out proportion; Let the propaganda flow! They built you up and heaped on praise, T'was a Cinderella story, Until they turned and heaped on scorn, Then things were kind of gory. And though you have been chosen, To that exalted post, You'll have to dissolve the government, So your buns may still be toast. Yes, hard times are a-coming, Votes must be cast and counted, You will have to earn that job, Or your throne can't be mounted. You must be hired to the job, By little folks like us, And I don't think your going to like Our anti-Tory fuss. You've said that you have no regard for snobbish S.O.B.s Since I've never joined a party, I guess you must mean me. I have thought about your words; I think I know what you meant. Please note, I love my country, But not its government. The senate is by patronage, The Tories have taxed reading, Treaties favor foreigners, Being Liberal is self-defeating The NDP can't stay in power, The cod stocks are depleted, A million starving people, Are going to be deleted. I've always lived in Canada, And I've seen my share of strife, And I have too much self-repect, To live the political life. But still and all, I watch the news, Have my fingers on the pulse, I know when you play with numbers, And when what you say is false. So, when you call an election, Kimmy, make a note. I am involved in politics, You see, I always vote. Copyright 1993 Michael Nellis
